5 Caribbean Artists nominated for MTV Japan VMA's 2010

Jamaican acts Sean Paul, Sean Kingston and Alicia Keys as well as Bajan-born Rihanna and Leona Lewis who is of Guyanese heritage (technically so is Rihanna as her mom is Guyanese) are up for awards in various categories for this years MTV Japan's Video Music Awards (VMA's).

The categories are:

BEST MALE VIDEO
Sean Paul- "So Fine"
Rihanna- "Russian Roulette"

VIDEO OF THE YEAR
Alicia Keys- "Doesn't Mean Anything"

BEST POP VIDEO
Leona Lewis- "Happy"

BEST REGGAE
Sean Kingston- "Fire Burning"
Sean Paul- "So Fine"

BEST VIDEO FROM FILM
Leona Lewis - "I See You" from Avatar

BEST COLLABORATION
Jay-z and Alicia Keys- "Empire State of Mind"




Of course in every category there are Japanese nominees. It is interesting that to date the Reggae category (which was introduced in 2006) has only been won by Japanese artists. apart from Sean Paul (nominated in 2006 for We Be Burnin, in 2007 for Temperature) and Kingston (nominated in 2008 for Beautiful Girls) only 2 other Jamaican aritsts have been nominated in this category. Mavado in 2008 with his song "Dreaming" and Kardinall Offishall (who was born in Canada to Jamaican parents) with "Dangerous" (his duo with Akon) in 2009.

The show will be held on May 29th.
