Buju Banton was scheduled to be in court on June 21st but US District Judge James Moody changed the date to September, and to date the reason is unclear. This is the second time since his December 2009 arrest that his trial date has been changed. The initial trial date was April 21st 2010.David Oscar Markus, Buju's attorney, has filed an objection, saying the change violates the federal Speedy Trial Act. This law requires that a criminal defendant’s trial start within 70 days of him being charged or makes an initial appearance, whichever is later. Mr. Markus also requested a hearing on this matter for next Thursday, June 3, 2010 and is awaiting the Court’s response.
